Clazzical Notes premiered in 2015 as a change to a former community program that Jerri Price Gaines started in the years 2004 -2009. This program was presented at the former Pasadena Jazz Institute and the Ramo Auditorium at the California Institute of Technology, Boston Court and the Green Room in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. At that time the goal was to bring to passionate music listening communities together. The bridge between Jazz and Classical music seemed less formidable when the two genres, were on the same stage and it was embraced by many supporters and fans of both genres.
After a few years in Edmond, Oklahoma Jerri observed the shift in the demographics of Pasadena was noticeable as was the increasing divide between communities When Jerri returned from Oklahoma, she was reminded by many in Pasadena who remembered Clazzical Notes and wondered if it would return or she would receive a note from various musicians who she hired during those early years and enjoyed the experience of working with musicians and vocalists they did not know. The excitement in the eyes the audience and particularly families was the flame that renewed her passion for this program, and she went about taking the title and mission to fit the times and make it her vision. She developed a Board who support and affirmed her vision for the program. She was insistent that the program be inclusive with diversity of music, performers, ethnic styles, and generations. The Board designed the organization to stand for education, engagement and experience a fun coda of sharing the joy of music with the audiences and the performers. The incentive for Clazzical Notes to see its mission of bringing people together in peace and harmony with music, is Jerri’s longtime commitment. It is a joy to not present inclusive sometimes, to make a difference with every program such as this to celebrate the joy of orcommon humanity.
